About Us & FAQ
About Us
Holy Family Cemetery was established in March of 1963 with a single Mausoleum and ground burial area. Since that time we have expanded to nine mausoleums, three ground burial sections, a tomb burial area, and a cremation garden. Holy Family Cemetery is co-owned by Our Lady of Perpetual Help and St. Peter Catholic Churches, both located here in New Iberia.

Interment fees encompass a variety of essential services provided by cemetery staff. These fees cover the administration and meticulous record keeping involved in the process — we assess internment rights, secure necessary permissions, and handle all required documentation. Does the Cemetery Allow Cremated Remains?
Yes, since 1963, the Catholic Church has lifted its prohibition against cremation. While many prefer cremation as a means of disposition, it is essential to understand that it does not serve as the final resting place until the cremains are interred. Human cremated remains are still a representation of the deceased, albeit in a different form. Therefore, it is crucial to treat cremated remains with the same dignity and respect as one would a full body prior to cremation. These remains should be appropriately honored through traditional in-ground burial or entombment in an above-ground columbarium niche, crypt, or mausoleum. Preserving the memory of the deceased by ensuring their remains are safe, undisturbed, and memorialized is a cherished tradition. Everyone deserves to be remembered, and it is vital for family members and future generations to have the opportunity to visit these graves, even if just once. This is evident from the numerous visitors who come to the cemetery each year to explore their family genealogy!

Understanding Perpetual Care
Perpetual care offers essential maintenance services such as lawn care, trimming, and thorough cleaning to uphold a tranquil and dignified atmosphere in the cemetery. It is important to note that Perpetual Care does not cover damages or theft of decorations, plantings, or memorials, nor does it include shrubbery removal, foundation repairs, or personal attention to individual tombs.
May I spread my loved one's ashes in the Cemetery?
At Holy Family Cemetery, we understand the deep significance of honoring your loved ones, and while we appreciate the desire to celebrate their life in nature, our regulations prohibit the spreading of cremated remains on burial lots. Instead, we offer serene options for interment in ground lots, entombment in our elegant mausoleum vaults, or the option to encase remains in a niches, allowing for a respectful and meaningful tribute that provides a lasting remembrance within our tranquil grounds.
What are the rules for decorating graves?
The cemtery rules and regulations outlines what decorations are and are not permitted in section 8.03:
The placing of boxes, cans, shells, toys, metal designs, ornamental, signs, cards, ads, chairs, settees, cases, glass, wood or iron cases, concrete urns, concrete planter boxes, photographs, souvenirs, wreaths, flags, concrete benches, pictures and similar articles of any article other than the approved memorials, upon spaces shall not be permitted. If so placed, the Cemetery reserves the right to remove the same without notice to the owner and consider the same as abandoned.
Besides fresh flowers, all items placed at or near a space shall be deemed abandoned and may be removed and disposed of by the Cemetery without notice. Using tape, command strips, suction cups, stickers, wires, or glue to attach items to the front of tombs, crypts, or niches is strictly prohibited. Fresh flowers are only permitted outdoors and not inside the Cemetery buildings.
It is not permissible to hang items in trees and shrubbery near grave sites, including but not limited to bird feeders, bird houses, balloons, whirly gigs, wind chimes, solar lights, wooden signs, banners, and items requiring electrical power, or other decorations. The Cemetery Director maintains the authority to remove and dispose of such items. Decorations on crypts/niches cannot extend over adjacent crypts/niches. If the Cemetery deems that an item to be removed is valued over ten dollars ($10), this item will be cataloged and kept for sixty (60) days after removal to allow loved ones to retrieve such items from the maintenance department.
Decorating a loved one’s grave with valuable or extremely sentimental items is strongly discouraged. The Cemetery does NOT assume responsibility for these items and cannot guarantee the safety or security of any item placed on the grounds.
Temporary crosses that serve as grave markers that the Cemetery places will remain up for sixty (60) days following a burial to allow time for a permanent marker to be placed.
